A TEAM of soldiers from the Army’s 53rd Infantry Battalion (IB) joined the Youth Leadership Summit alumni and faculty of a school in the conduct of an outreach mission in Guipos, Zamboanga del Sur, an official said Monday, November 16, 2020.
Lieutenant Colonel Jo-ar Herrera, 53IB commander, said the outreach mission, which was held Friday, November 13, included the Brigada Eskwela and a feeding program for children studying at the primary school of Katipunan village, Guipos.
Herrera said the team also distributed slippers for the children and conducted Brigada Eskwela thereafter with this year's theme: “Pagpapanatili ng Bayanihan Tungo sa Kalidad na Edukasyon para sa Kabataan.”
Brigada Eskwela is the yearly National Maintenance Week initiated by the Department of Education.
Public School Division Supervisor Marites Abad, Katipunan Village Chief Jimmy Lavilla and Head Teacher Apolinario Mateo have also joined the activity.
Herrera said the activity aims to bring together all education stakeholders to participate and contribute their time, effort and resources to prepare public school facilities for the opening of the school year.
He said with combined efforts in repainting the classrooms and cleaning the school’s surroundings, the team ensured that the school will be conducive for learning. (SunStar Zamboanga)
