THE Police Regional Office (PRO)-Zamboanga Peninsula has ordered the 699 overweight policemen to return to their respective units two weeks after they were ordered to report at the regional headquarters, for further Body Mass Index (BMI) evaluation.

Police Brigadier General Froilan Quidilla, PRO-Zamboanga Peninsula director, this came after the overweight policemen were able to initially loose at least two kilograms of their weight through the intervention program of the regional headquarters.

Quidilla said they will be monitored by their unit commanders on a weekly basis although they were allowed to return to their respective unit.

He said the unit commanders were obliged to report to the PRO-Zamboanga Peninsula headquarters on the progress weight reduction program.

He said a policeman who is five feet and five inches tall should weight 170 pounds based on the expanded BMI acceptable standard, otherwise they will be categorized as obese.

He said earlier that policemen under the category of obese class 1 are given 36 weeks to reduce weight while those categorized as obese class 2 and class 3 will have 48 and 60 weeks, respectively, to normalize weights.

“The BMI is an internal cleansing program of the Chief PNP (General Archie Francisco Gamboa) and for strict compliance.” he said. (SunStar Philippines)
