Abu Sayyaf bandit surrenders in Basilan

A MEMBER of the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) has surrendered to government authorities in the province of Basilan, a military official said.

Lieutenant Colonel Alex Ampati, Army's Fourth Special Forces Battalion commander, identified the ASG surrenderer as Muhammad Basi, a member of the Basilan-based bandit group.

Ampati said Basi surrendered Sunday, April 12, at the headquarters of the Fourth Special Force Battalion in the village of Cabunbata, Isabela City, the capital of Basilan province.

Ampati said Basi turned over an improvised rocket-propelled grenade launcher and rifle grenade ammunition.

He said more than 200 ASG members already surrendered to the different military units in Basilan as security situation in the province improves. (SunStar Zamboanga)
