THE Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) handed over on Friday, June 9, 2023, P100,000 cash gift to a centenarian in Zamboanga City.
The recipient of the centenarian cash gift was Marina Enriquez, 100, a resident of Bienvenido Drive in Canelar village.
Mayor John Dalipe joined the DSWD staff in handing over the cash gift to Enriquez pursuant to Republic Act 10868, otherwise known as the "Centenarians Act of 2016."
The amount is the National Government's cash grant to senior citizens who reach the age of 100 with funding coming from the DSWD.
Enriquez also received a letter of felicitation from President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. congratulating the celebrator for her longevity.
Dalipe also extended his felicitations to the centenarian, as he thanked her for her contributions to the society.
Meanwhile, the City Government, through the City Social Welfare and Development Office, granted cash incentives to centenarians based on the provisions of Ordinance 459 as amended by Ordinance 539, otherwise known as the Octogenarian and Nonagenarian Benefits for Senior Citizens of Zamboanga City.
Under the ordinance, a centenarian will receive P50,000 as cash incentive, which is the City Government's counterpart to DSWD's P100,000 as a way of honoring and recognizing the contributions of senior citizens to the society.
Based on Ordinance 539, senior citizens will be granted the cash gift even before they reach the age of 100. (SunStar Zamboanga)
