CIDG operative nabbed murder suspect

OPERATIVES of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) have arrested a 42-year-old man who has pending criminal cases in the province of Zamboanga del Sur, the police reported Monday, November 14, 2022.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Rex Perocho, CIDG-Zamboanga del Sur Provincial Field Unit chief, identified the arrested suspect as Askuna Samal, 42, who was arrested Saturday, November 12, in Muricay village, Pagadian City.

Perocho said Samal has standing warrants of arrest for the crime of frustrated murder with P200,000 recommended bail dated February 7, 2019 and for murder with no bail dated October 13, 2022 issued by the count of Pagadian City, Zamboanga del Sur.

Perocho said that Samal was the primary suspect in the attempt to kill and killing of Toto Cabaron in 2021 which led to the filing of cases against him.

He said that Samal was apprised of his constitutional rights, both Miranda and anti-torture warning, in a dialect he fully understands.

He said the arrested accused was placed under the custody of the CIDG-Zamboanga del Sur Provincial Field Unit. (SunStar Zamboanga)
