City gov’t hires taxis amid Covid-19 crisis

THE Zamboanga City Government has hired the services of taxis to serve and provide free transport for patients with chronic disease amid the enhanced community quarantine due to the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) crisis.

This, as the public transport has been suspended in view of the implementation of the enhanced community quarantine.

Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar said those who may avail of the free transport are: patients on chemotherapy; patients on regular dialysis; and, patients on physical rehabilitation.

“Our fleet of taxis are ready to serve and provide free transport for patients with chronic diseases. Today is our first day of implementation,” Salazar.

The mayor said that those who wish to avail the free transport for patients with chronic disease can contact the cellular phone number 0909-371-3257.

She said they are requested to provide the following details to the coordinator for priority listing: name of patient; contact number; pick-up point (exact address and landmark); time of medical appointment; name of hospital or clinic; and, proof of medical appointment at hospital.

She reminded that the patient must call two days before scheduled appointment and it will be on a first come, first served basis, due to limited availability of taxi units.

She said the pick-up point will only be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (SunStar Zamboanga)
