Cop charged with murder over Tawi-Tawi vice mayor death

A POLICE officer has been charged for the killing of Sapa-Sapa, Tawi-tawi Vice Mayor Alrasid Mohamad Lipae Ali, Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Oscar Albayalde said Monday, August 6.

Albayalde said Police Officer 3 Mahammad Lacbao Tolete, a resident of San Isidro, Zone II, Barangay Mercedes, Zamboanga City, has been charged with murder by the Special Investigation Task Group (SITG) Mohammad Ali before the Office of the City Prosecutor of Zamboanga City.

“He (Tolete) was positively identified by eye witnesses as the gunman who shot and killed Vice Mayor Ali,” he said.

Ali was gunned down on July 11 along Governor Alvarez street, Barangay Zone 3, Zamboanga City.

The Zamboanga City police said Tolete, who is assigned at the Lamitan City Police Station, went on Absence Without Leave following the incident.

Albayalde said Tolote and his cohorts are now a subject of manhunt operations. (SunStar Philippines)
