Cops kill carnap suspect in shoutout

A SUSPECTED carnapper was killed in a shootout with pursuing policemen in Pagadian City, Zamboanga del Sur, the police reported Monday, July 31, 2023.

Police Colonel Diomarie Albarico, Zamboanga del Sur police director, said the shootout took place around 2 a.m. Sunday, July 30, along Kawit-Muricay road in Muricay village, Pagadian City.

Albarico identified the slain suspect as Ramel Mucaram based on the PhilHealth card the policemen recovered the suspect.

Prior to the shootout, Albarico said the Pagadian City Police Station received a complaint of carnapping prompting the deployment of duty patrollers and intelligence operatives to locate, recover, and possibly arrest the suspect.

Albarico said they immediately pursued the suspect when the spotted an unidentified person driving a motorcycle which matched the description of the reported stolen motorcycle.

He said upon reaching Muricay village, the suspect suddenly stopped the motorcycle, got off, and drew a firearm from his sling bag and opened fire prompting the pursuing policemen to return fire hitting the suspect.

He said the suspect was rushed to a nearby hospital but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.

He said recovered at the shootout scene were a caliber .45 pistol, five empty shells of the same caliber, two empty shells of .9-millimeter pistol, a sling bag containing cash, a cellular phone, and a Philhealth card bearing the name of Ramel Taug Mucaram.

He added the suspect’s remains was brought to Gamalinda Funeral Homes.(SunStar Zamboanga)
