TWO persons illegally transporting fuel were arrested by policemen while on security patrol in a west coast village of this city, the police reported Thursday, August 10.
Arrested were Ramjan Mandi, 41, and his companion, Ameir Ibañez, 17, both residents of Jatian village in Sibuco, Zamboanga del Norte, said Police Major Ramon Aquiatan, Jr., chief of the Zamboanga City Police Station 10 (ZCPS10).
Aquiatan said they were conducting checkpoint operation around 12:05 a.m. Thursday, August 10, along the highway of Sinubong village, west of this city, when they flagged down a vehicle driven by Mandi for inspection.
During the inspection, Aquiatan said the truck was found to be loaded with seven gallons containing some 210 liters of gasoline worth P14,700.
Mandi and his companion were immediately arrested and the gasoline confiscated after they failed to present documents of their cargo, which is combustible material.
Aquiatan said it is illegal to transport gasoline or any combustible materials without the necessary permit as it is in violation of the Fire Code of the Philippines of 2008.
Mandi, his companion and the gasoline as well as the truck were placed under the temporary custody of ZCPS10 and will be later turned over to the Bureau of Fire Protection for proper disposition. (SunStar Zamboanga)
