THE Department of Agriculture (DA) recently turned over some P36,000 worth of vegetable seeds to the Department of Environment and Natural Resource (DENR) for propagation.

DENR-Zamboanga Peninsula Executive Director Crisanta Marlene Rodriguez personally received the vegetable seeds from a representative of the DA.

The vegetable seeds include squash, tomatoes, okra, sweet pepper, eggplant, string beans, and bitter gourd.

Rodriguez said the seeds will be propagated at the agency's Modernized and Mechanized Forest Nursery in Baclay, Tukuran, Zamboanga del Sur.

Rodriguez said the vegetable and forest tree seedlings will be distributed under the Alay Gulay and Binhi ng Buhay project for backyard gardening and reforestation efforts.

The DENR is encouraging the public to have a plant-based diet so as to help reduce their carbon footprints and ensure the availability of local nutritious food. (SunStar Zamboanga)
