Driver, construction worker nabbed in anti-drug ops

A DRIVER and a construction worker were arrested while some P86,000 worth of suspected shabu or methamphetamine hydrochloride seized in separate anti-illegal drug operations in Zamboanga Peninsula region, the police reported Sunday, April 19.

Police Major Helen Galvez, Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula information officer, identified the arrested suspects as Mobean Mamaton, 32, a driver; and, Joel Morandarte, 36, a construction worker.

Galvez said Mamaton was arrested in a drug bust around 2:45 p.m. Saturday, April 18 at Zone 6 in the village of Tiguma, Pagadian City, the capital of Zamboanga del Sur.

Confiscated from Mamaton were some P11,000 worth of suspected shabu, P500 marked money, a unit of cellular phone, and illegal drug paraphernalia.

Galvez said Morandarte was arrested in another drug bust around 10:30 p.m. Saturday in the village of Upper Turno, Dipolog City, the capital of Zamboanga del Norte.

She said seized from the possession of Morandarte were some P75,000 worth of suspected shabu, and buy-bust money.

Both suspects were detained while appropriate charges are set to be filed against them. (SunStar Zamboanga)
