A MEMBER of the militia was killed in a gun attack in the province of Zamboanga del Norte, the police reported Tuesday, August 1, 2023.
Slain was Sabre Cabato, 38, a resident of Limbonga, Godod, Zamboanga del Norte, according to Police Colonel Glenn Dulawan, Zamboanga del Norte police director.
Dulawan said the incident happened around 4:15 p.m. Monday, July 31, in Dela Paz, Liloy, Zamboanga del Norte.
Dulawan said investigation showed that prior to the incident, Cabato had a heated altercation with the suspect, Vincent Refugio, 39, a fisherman at the latter’s house.
He said that in the midst of their altercation, Refugio allegedly pulled a handgun from his waist and shot Cabato in the chest.
He said Cabato managed to get out of the house and walked few meters away before he lost consciousness and fell on the ground.
The suspect fled after the incident while responding police rushed Cabato to the Liloy Rural Health Unit, but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.(SunStar Zamboanga)
