Militiaman hurt in gun attack; suspects nabbed

A MILITIAMAN was shot and wounded while the culprits were arrested in the province of Zamboanga del Sur, the police reported Saturday, December 19, 2020.

The Zamboanga del Sur Provincial Police Office identified the victim as Romulo Miyas Alvarez, 48, a resident of Purok Doña Luz in Eastern Poblacion village, Sominot, Zamboanga del Sur.

The police said the incident happened around 4:40 p.m. Friday in Purok 2 in Lomangoy village, Sominot.

According to police, Alvarez was allegedly shot without provocation by the suspects identified as Alexander Alvarez Cagoco, 64; and Tomas Alvarez Cagoco, 53.

Alvarez was rushed to the Zamboanga del Sur Medical Center in Pagadian City for medical treatment, while the suspects were arrested by the responding policemen.

It was said that the motive of the incident was land conflict.
