Napocor energizes Sacol Island

THE National Power Corporation (Napocor), through the Small Power Utilities Group (Spug), will operate a diesel-fired power plant that will provide a 24-hour power service in Sacol Island, east off Zamboanga City.

Engineer Abdulsana Hasinon, Sacol power plant head, said the project, which is estimated to cost P25 million, will benefit some 500 households in Sacol Island.

Sacol island, which is about 12 kilometers long and eight kilometers wide, is the largest among the 28 islands in Zamboanga City.

The island, inhabited mostly by fishing residents, comprises of four villages, namely, Busay, Landang Gua, Landang Laum, and Pasilmanta.

Spug vice president Rogel Teves and Spug Mindanao Operations Department manager Nestor Flauta spearheaded the ceremonial inauguration of the project on Friday, November 8.

Vice Mayor Rommel Agan and second district Representative Jose Manuel Dalipe II joined the Spug officials during the ceremonial inauguration.

The event was witnessed by the officials of the four villages of Sacol Island and household representatives. (SunStar Zamboanga)
