THE National Irrigation Administration (NIA)-Zamboanga Peninsula is undertaking a major repair and improvement on the Labangan River Irrigation System (Labris) to make it adaptive to climate change.

The Labris, which straddles the town of Labangan and Pagadian City in Zamboanga del Sur, is one of the National Irrigation Systems (NIS) in the Zamboanga Peninsula (Region 9).

NIA-Zamboanga Peninsula said in a statement that the improvements include extending of dam crest in Labangan dam, and concreting of 1,200 meters lining along Labris Main Canal.

"These improvements will ensure sufficient flow of water into the irrigation canals, thereby making water delivery to Labris service area more efficient," NIA-Zamboanga Peninsula said.

The agency guarantees that through these developments, its irrigation facilities will be resilient and adaptive to the current and future effects of climate change. (SunStar Zamboanga)
