FOUR reservist officers and five enlisted personnel of the Naval Forces Western Mindanao (NFWM) were promoted to the next higher ranks.

The promoted reservist officers and enlisted personnel belong to the 61st Naval Group Reserve and 93rd Marine Battalion Reserve, all under the supervision of the Naval Reserve Center-Western Mindanao and under the operational control of NFWM.

Promoted were Lieutenant Commander Reynaldo Cabilin, Lieutenant Junior Grade Jennifer Perias, Lieutenant Junior Emma Antonio, Lieutenant Junior Grade Oliver John Nuevo, Petty Officer 1 Rodolfo Abela, Petty Office 3 Emily Apostol, Petty Officer 3 Angelico Eufemio, Seaman First Class Bhong John Acidera, and Seaman First Class Jayson Pabi.

Rear Admiral Toribio Adaci Jr., NFWM commander, presided over the Donning of Ranks ceremony of the newly promoted reservist officers and five enlisted personnel on Thursday, February 17, at the Naval Station Romulo Espaldon (NSRE) in Zamboanga City.

All, except Nuevo, were present during the ceremony held at the Officer's Club of the NSRE.

Adaci congratulated the newly promoted personnel and reminded them of their responsibilities and the command's expectations about their performance commensurate to their new ranks.

Adaci encouraged them to be exemplars and advocates in bringing about positive change to the organization.

"Get out of your shell and be an advocate of change. Use your new rank to positively influence others," Adaci added.

The Philippine Navy reservists are the Navy's force multipliers intended to complement the regular force during peacetime and wartime operations.

Recently, the naval reservists in Western Mindanao participated in the Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Response operations in Surigao after the onslaught of Typhoon Odette.

The reservists, by design, support the Navy’s undertakings as an organization. (SunStar Zamboanga)
