Soldier dies in motorbike, jeep collision

A SOLDIER died in a vehicular accident on All Souls’ Day, November 2, in Zamboanga City, a police official said.

Police Captain Edwin Duco, Zamboanga City Police Office (ZCPO) information officer, identified the fatality as Private First Class Gerard Penolvo, 28, a native of South Cotabato, and a member of the Philippine Army.

Duco said that Penolvo was driving a motorcycle around 11:30 a.m. Saturday along the seaside road in Baliwasan Village when he accidentally bumped the left rear portion of a public utility jeep driven by Ronald Toledo, 39.

Duco said Penolvo sustained multiple injuries as the soldier crashed on the concrete pavement as a result of the impact of the collision.

He said Penolvo was rushed, but failed to reach the hospital alive. (SunStar Zamboanga)
