INVESTIGATION continues to determine the people behind the foiled bombing plot in the province of Basilan, officials said.

Brigadier General Fernando Reyeg, commander of the Basilan-based Army’s 101st Infantry Brigade, said the bombing plot was foiled after the troops conducted law enforcement operation, in response to reliable information, which resulted in the recovery of bomb components around 11:30 a.m., Friday, June 19, in Bohe Pahu village, Ungkaya Pukan municipality.

Reyeg said the troops recovered three 60-mm mortar ammunition with wires, one improvised blasting cap, and one commercial radio converted to a remote control switch.

“We are extending our appreciation to the people of Basilan. Truly, the participation of the populace is very vital in our efforts against the local terrorist group and other lawless elements,” Reyeg said.

Lieutenant General Cirilito Sobejana, commander of the Western Mindanao Command, has urged the public to be calm but vigilant.

“Let us continue to help one another to prevent the terrorists from sowing terror in the communities,” Sobejana added. (SunStar Zamboanga)
