GOVERNMENT forces have recovered high-powered firearms and other war materiel hidden by the communist New People’s Army (NPA) terrorists in the province of Zamboanga del Sur, officials announced Sunday, December 6, 2020.

Recovered last week were an AK-47 assault rifle, an M-14 rifle and magazines, 7.62-millimeter ammunition, subversive documents, medicines and personal belongings.

Lieutenant Colonel Jo-ar Herrera, commander of the 53rd Infantry Battalion, said the firearms and other war materiel were recovered in Sitio Sinatalan, Labangon village, Dumingag, Zamboanga del Sur, based on the revelation of former members of the NPA.

Herrera said the recovery of the firearms and war materiel is another fruit of Dumingag's counterinsurgency plan dubbed as Oplan “Amuma.”

Police Colonel Rhode Espero, Zamboanga del Sur police director, said the operation's success can be attributed to the great convergence, collaboration and good relationship between and among law enforcement units and the military.

The recovered war materiel is currently under the custody of the Zamboanga del Sur First Provincial Mobile Force Company for proper disposition. (SunStar Zamboanga)
