OFFICIALS of the United Kingdom (UK) and Philippine military have determined areas of cooperation where the former can further support the latter, particularly in maritime domain awareness and maritime security.

The matter was discussed by Chris Felton, hub head for the UK’s Counter-Terrorism and Extremism Network (CTEN) for Asia, and Brigadier General Arturo Rojas, Western Mindanao Command (Westmincom) deputy commander for external defense operations, in a meeting Wednesday, September 7, at Camp Don Basilio Navarro, Zamboanga City.

Rojas and Felton also discussed Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) policies, programs and current initiatives on how to better understand common concerns between the Philippines and the UK.

Felton leads the CTEN for Asia based in the British High Commission in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

As hub head, Felton liaises with colleagues in the UK posts in the Asia Pacific and in London to understand the risk of terrorism in the region to the UK nationals and to work with local partners to reduce the risk.

Felton visited Westmincom Wednesday morning, September 7.

Felton was received by Rojas at the Laong Laan Hall located at Camp Navarro, Calarian, Zamboanga City.

Colonel Elmer Suderio, chief of Unified Command Staff of Westmincom, joined Rojas in welcoming Felton. (SunStar Zamboanga)
