Village officials warned for non-functional Badac

THE Department of Interior and Local Government reiterated its earlier warning against non-functional Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Councils (Badacs), saying that appropriate charges will be filed in court against village officials found uncooperative in the anti-illegal drugs program.

Isidro Cillo, Jr., DILG-City Chief for Operation, issued the warning anew during the recent meeting of the Zamboanga City Anti-Drug Abuse Council (ZCADAC) following the police report that most village officials were uncooperative in the barangay drug clearing activities.

The ZCADAC is chaired by Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar.

Cillo said the village officials or the BADACs are mandated by law to submit a monthly report but until now not one BADAC has ever submitted a report.

“No report has been submitted,” Cillio lamented.

He said the evaluation of all Badacs will be done from January to March 2019, and those found non-functional or uncooperative village officials will be charged accordingly.

He said the reason why the police found difficulty in their village drug clearing operations is because the barangay officials are not submitting the requirements.

Under the guidelines or parameters for declaring a barangay drug-cleared, the BADAC has to submit the required documents in one folder that includes plan of action, budget and activities, among others. (SunStar Philippines)
