Zamboanga abattoir retains ‘AA’ classification

THE Zamboanga City Abattoir has retained its Double “A” classification after passing the audit and final evaluation accreditation conducted by the National Meat Inspection Service (NMIS).

City Administrator Marie Angelique Go said that the city abattoir now has the license to operate as a class AA slaughterhouse for a period of three years.

In the Executive Order No. 137, slaughterhouses with AA classification are those facilities and operational procedures sufficiently adequate that the livestock and fowls slaughtered therein are suitable for sale in any market, within the country.

The abattoir is one of this city’s economic enterprises under the management of the City Administrator’s Office.

Go said the evaluation and audit was conducted by the NMIS – Plant Operation Standards Monitoring Division from August 16 to 17.

Meanwhile, Go said that ongoing improvements are being carried out by the local government at the City Abattoir. (Bong Garcia/SunStar Philippines)
