ZAMBOANGA City Mayor John Dalipe and Major General Jonnel Estomo, newly installed Area Police Command–Western Mindanao (APC-WM) chief, discussed measures on how to further strengthen security and to curb criminality in Zamboanga City.

The two officials discussed strengthening security in this city when Estomo paid a courtesy visit to Dalipe at City Hall Tuesday afternoon, September 5, 2023.

They tackled the augmentation of personnel in Zamboanga City and the need to beef up security in the city’s porous and long coastal area.

Dalipe on Wednesday, September 6, said they also discussed the upcoming Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) and the Hermosa Festival in October.

Lawyer Stephen Roy Cañete, first district election officer, earlier said that 11 of this city’s 98 villages are areas of concern.

Cañete said the areas of concerns include all the eight island villages and three barangays in this city’s mainland.

Estomo said this is his first time to be assigned here and that he is blessed and honored to be here.

“Kung saan kame makatulong mayor, kung sa level ba ng Camp, gagawin namin para sa kabutihan ng Zamboanga (Where we can help mayor, whether at the Camp level, we will do it for the good of Zamboanga),” Estomo told Dalipe.

Estomo assumed as the APC-Wm chief in the middle of August, replacing Lieutenant General Vicente Danao Jr. who has retired from the service.

Prior to his new assignment, Estomo served as the chief of the Philippine National Police's Directorate for Plans.

The APC-WM has jurisdiction over the police forces in Zamboanga Peninsula, Soccsksargen and Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao. (SunStar Zamboanga)
