THE Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA)-Zamboanga Peninsula kicked off Monday, January 18, 2021, the Step 1 Registration for the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys) in Zamboanga City with Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar as the first registrant.
Salazar was the first ceremonial Step 1 registered resident of PhilSys in the city as a show of her support to the PSA program.
Salazar welcomed the PSA-Zamboanga Peninsula team at her residence in Sta. Maria village early Monday morning, January 18.
Condrad Sontillano, PSA-Zamboanga Peninsula chief statistical specialist, said Zamboanga City is included in the areas not covered by last year's start of the Step 1 registration by the PSA.
Sontillano said Step 1 registration involves the gathering of demographic information such as a person's name, sex, date and place of birth, blood type, and address.
He said the PhilSys Registration involves three steps -- Step 1 is the gathering of demographic information, step 2 is the capture of biometric information while step 3 involves the issuance of the Philippine ID and the PhilSys Number.
He said the National Government is targeting barangays with a high number or proportion of poor households that do not have access to Internet connectivity at this time. (SunStar Zamboanga)
