Zamboanga City mayor orders tightened security

ZAMBOANGA City Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar has directed police, military and all other security forces to triple efforts to keep the city safe and secure, following the twin bomb explosions in Jolo, Sulu Monday, August 24, 2020.

Salazar thanked the Joint Task Force-Zamboanga, the Marine Battalion Landing Team-11 (MBLT-11), 24th Infantry Battalion, the police, Coast Guard and all force multipliers for quickly responding to her heightened alert directives.

She said shortly after the explosions in Jolo before noon Monday, the military and the police immediately deployed their assets and personnel in the downtown area to include seaborne patrols, checking on all watercraft coming in and out of the city.

This, as she has also appealed to the residents of this city to cooperate with the authorities by reporting immediately any sightings of unusual or unattended things and suspicious-looking persons in their communities.

On behalf of the City Government of Zamboanga and its constituents, Salazar condemned the Jolo bombings and asked the people to pray for the souls of those who perished in the explosions.

She also expressed her sympathies and condolences to the bereaved families. (SunStar Zamboanga)
