

EIGHTEEN people were safely rescued after their motorboat capsized due to inclement weather condition over the weekend off Basilan province.
Police Major Geobani Calle, Basilan Maritime Police Station (Marpsta) chief, said they were rescued around 10 a.m. Saturday, July 12, 2025, in the waters off Maluso, Basilan.
Calle said the 18 passengers and crew were traveling from Tattalan village, Banguingui, Sulu to Maluso when they encountered strong winds, causing their motorboat to capsize.
Basilan Marpsta personnel, together with members of the Philippine Coast Guard sub-station Maluso, and Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, immediately responded and safely rescued all passengers and crew members of the ill-fated motorboat.
All rescued individuals were found to be in a stable condition and were provided with immediate assistance.
There was no reported casualty or missing among the 18 people aboard the motorboat. (SunStar Zamboanga)
