LAWMEN have arrested a 32-year-old man and safely rescued his five-year-old child in a hostage-taking incident in Zamboanga City, the police said Thursday, August 14, 2025.

The Zamboanga City Police Office (ZCPO) identified the arrested suspect as alias Carlito, a resident of Tugbungan village.

The hostage-taking incident unfolded around 4:50 a.m. Thursday, August 14, when Carlito suddenly went berserk and broke their window glass.

“The suspect took a shard and pointed it at the neck of their youngest child, Kylie,” the ZCPO said.

The suspect, taking the girl with him, ran when the girl’s mother shouted for help.

The suspect, who was found hiding inside a store, was arrested, and the girl, who was unharmed, was rescued by responding policemen and village watchmen.

The suspect was placed under the custody of Zamboanga City Police Station 6 pending the filing of charges against him, the ZCPO said. (SunStar Zamboanga)
