The Coast Guard Station Western Sulu (CGSWS) said the six passengers were rescued around 8:45 p.m. Tuesday, August 5, in the municipal waters of Panglima Tahil.
The CGSWS learned of the incident as one of the six passengers, Amina Adain, managed to make a distress call before the communication line went dead.
Four of the six were immediately rescued when the CGSWS search and rescue team located the half-submerged motorboat marked Sheila Mae.
The CGSWS said the other two passengers were rescued several minutes later. One of the six passengers was slightly injured during the incident.
Investigation showed that the rescued individuals were traveling to Teomobal Island, Lugus town from port of Jolo when their motorboat capsized due to big waves.
The rescued passengers were transported to the port of Jolo jointly by personnel of CGSWS and Sulu Maritime Police Station.
