PHILIPPINE Marine Corpsmen revived a child, while a critically injured shooting victim was successfully airlifted to Zamboanga City from Tawi-Tawi, together with United States Marine personnel, the military said on Monday, April 7, 2025.
The 4th Civil Relations Group (4CRG) reported that two Marine Corpsmen, Corporal Jerome Roa and Private All-John Cubin, sprang into action when a seven-year-old child was pulled lifeless from the waters on Sunday, April 6, at Sitio Tandu-Owak in Ligayan village, Sibutu, Tawi-Tawi.
The 4CRG stated that Cubin immediately performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on the child, who had no vital signs, while Roa secured the chaotic scene.
The 4CRG further reported that the two corpsmen successfully revived the young boy and rushed him on foot to the battalion's advance command post for transport to the hospital.
"Thanks to their swift action, medical skills, and unwavering presence of mind, the child is now safe and recovering," the 4CRG said in a statement.
Roa and Cubin are corpsmen of the Marine Battalion Landing Team-4, based in Tawi-Tawi.
Meanwhile, the 2nd Marine Brigade (2MBde), in collaboration with the United States Marines' Marine Special Operations Company-Philippines (MSOC-P), successfully conducted an emergency evacuation to save the life of Gabby Ramli, 40.
The 4CRG reported that Ramli, a resident of Bongao, Tawi-Tawi, had sustained a gunshot wound and required urgent medical attention.
The 4CRG stated that the Integrated Public Health Office (IPHO) of Tawi-Tawi immediately coordinated with the 2MBde for an emergency medical evacuation after assessing Ramli's critical condition.
The MSOC-P facilitated Ramli's transport to Zamboanga City for specialized medical procedures, providing military aircraft following coordination from the 2MBde.
"This joint operation highlights the strong partnership between the United States and the Philippines in addressing emergency situations," the 4CRG said.
"The immediate response and teamwork exemplify a shared commitment to saving lives and providing assistance to the people of Tawi-Tawi," the 4CRG added. (SunStar Zamboanga)
