AUTHORITIES have arrested two persons and seized over P1 million worth of illegal drugs and a firearm in an anti-drug operation in Zamboanga City, the police said Thursday, May 29, 2025.

Police Colonel Fidel Fortaleza Jr., Zamboanga City Police Office (ZCPO) director, identified the arrested suspects as alias Mar, 39, and alias Rakib, 43, residents of Kasanyangan and San Jose Gusu, Zamboanga City, respectively.

Fortaleza said the two suspects were arrested in a buy-bust operation on Wednesday, May 28, in Sitio Asinan, Kasanyangan village, Zamboanga City.

Fortaleza said seized from the two arrested suspects were some 150 grams of suspected shabu worth P1,020,000, a bundle of buy-bust money, a caliber .38 revolver with two bullets and identification cards.

He said the buy-bust operation was launched following a series of surveillance on the illegal activities of the two suspects, who work as construction workers.

He said they were detained and charges for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 will be filed against them.

Wednesday’s confiscation of P1,020,000 worth of suspected shabu was the second biggest drug haul in Zamboanga Peninsula in May.

The first was worth P7.1 million on May 7 in a buy-bust operation by Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency operatives that also resulted in the arrest of two suspects in San Carlos village, Tukuran, Zamboanga del Sur. (SunStar Zamboanga)
