AUTHORITIES recovered two improvised explosive devices (IEDs), a firearm and ammunition owned by the New People’s Army (NPA) in the province of Sarangani, the police said Sunday, August 23, 2026.
Police Brigadier General Alan Manibog, Police Regional Office-Soccsksargen director, said the explosives, firearm and ammunition were recovered around 2:25 p.m. Saturday, August 22, in Purol Malakotay, Patag village, Malapatan, Sarangani.
Manibog said the two IEDs, caliber .38 revolver and ammunition were recovered base on information provided by alias Ka Cavite, a member of the Guerrilla Front 71, of the NPA’s Far South Mindanao Region.
Cavite has voluntarily surrendered to the government on July 24, 2026.
The recovered firearm and ammunition were brought to Malapatan Municipal Police Station for proper documentation and disposition, while the IEDs were secured by the Sarangani Provincial Explosive and Canine Unit for appropriate handling and disposal.
“Every surrender is an opportunity to choose peace. Information voluntarily shared can avert a tragedy and save lives,” Manibog said in a statement.
“We continue to encourage those who wish to turn away from violence to cooperate with the government and become part of a safer community,” Manibog added. (SunStar Zamboanga)
