A SECURITY guard of the Zamboanga City Special Economic Zone Authority and Freeport (Zamboecozone) was killed in a gun attack in Zamboanga City, the police said Monday, June 2, 2025.

The Zamboanga City Police Office (ZCPO) identified the slain security guard as Eduardo Taping, 52, a resident of Ayala village, Zamboanga City.

The ZCPO said Taping was shot and killed around 7:40 p.m. Sunday, June 1, in Zone 8, Ayala village.

The police said the investigation disclosed that, prior to the incident, Taping was on his way home from work when he was repeatedly shot by one of two men riding tandem on a motorcycle who had been tailing him.

Taping suffered multiple gunshot wounds and died instantaneously.

The police learned that the suspects sped towards the direction of La Paz village after the incident.

Recovered from the crime scene were seven empty shells of a 9-millimeter pistol.

The police continue their investigation to determine the motive as well as establish the identities of the suspects behind the incident. (SunStar Zamboanga)
