A SENATORIAL aspirant underscored the need for the government to continue its campaign against illegal drugs to curb criminal activities in the country.

Lawyer Victor Rodriguez, a candidate for senator under PDP-Laban, said on Saturday, April 12, 2025, that illegal drugs and criminality should be addressed simultaneously, as these two issues are intertwined.

“This should be prioritized. We must fight both criminality and illegal drugs, as they are interconnected. You can’t separate them,” Rodriguez said in an interview.

Rodriguez cited the recent killing of a Chinese businessman and philanthropist, along with his driver, as an example. He suggested that the perpetrators could have been under the influence of illegal drugs.

Businessman and philanthropist Anson Que and his driver, Armanie Pabillo, were found dead on April 3 in Rodriguez, Rizal.

The victims were believed to have been kidnapped before being killed.

Rodriguez noted that the suspects had tied the victims before killing them.

“A person with a normal mind cannot do that,” Rodriguez added.

Rodriguez emphasized that no sane Filipino would agree with the spread of illegal drugs.

He stated that the incident could be considered an isolated case.

Rodriguez visited Zamboanga City on Saturday, April 12, for a campaign sortie and met with the Team Zamboanga candidates, led by 1st District Representative Khymer Olaso and former Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco.

Olaso is running for mayor, while Climaco is vying for the vice mayoralty post of Zamboanga City.

From Zamboanga, Rodriguez traveled to Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay, where he also conducted a campaign sortie and met with his supporters. (SunStar Zamboanga)
