
THE Public Employment Service Office (Peso) oriented 1,036 students for the government's Special Program for Employment of Students (SPES) on Monday, June 9, 2025.
The second batch of beneficiaries received information on employment rules, preparing them for roles in various city offices and communities. The orientation took place at Mayor Vitaliano Agan Coliseum in Tetuan village, Zamboanga City.
Engineer Wesley Tan, Department of Labor and Employment-Zamboanga Peninsula assistant director, spoke about giving young ZamboangueƱos valuable work experience. He said it improves their technical skills and work ethic.
Peso Manager Juniebe Manganohoy announced the SPES program has a P12.7 million funding allocation this year.
The local government funds P7.6 million (60 percent), and DOLE-Zamboanga Peninsula covers the remaining P5.1 million (40 percent).
Each student will receive a daily wage of P615, totaling P12,300 for 20 days of work. This year's program offers higher salaries than previous SPES cycles.
The second batch of SPES beneficiaries are college students.
Their deployment begins the last week of June 2025.
