
A STUDENT was killed while another was wounded in a gun attack in an island village in Isabela City, the capital of Basilan province on Sunday, January 12, the first day of the nationwide election gun ban.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Raymond Sanson, newly installed Isabela City police chief, identified the fatality as Eddie Sauragal, 21.
Wounded and hospitalized was Sauragal’s classmate and friend, Hamudi Mohammad, 18.
Sanson said the gun attack happened around 10 p.m. Sunday, January 12, at Purok 2 in Tampalan village, Malamawi Island, Isabela City.
Investigation said that both Sauragal and Mohammad were walking in Purok 2, Tampalan village when shot by an unidentified gunman.
Sanson said the possible motives of the incident were personal grudges and could be related to illegal drug activities.
The incident was the first in Isabela City during the election period and the third in Basilan since January 1.
The first was in Lamitan City and the second was in Ungkaya Pukan. (SunStar Zamboanga)
