Troops clash anew vs NPA rebels in Lanao del Sur
TROOPS from the 5th Infantry Battalion (5IB) have clashed once again with remnants of the New People's Army (NPA) in the hinterlands of Lanao del Sur, the military said Tuesday, July 1, 2025.
The clash on Monday, June 30, in Piangologan village, Marogong, Lanao del Sur was the second in just few days involving the same group of NPA rebels, who belong to the Sub-Regional Committee (SRC)-5 of the NPA's North Central Mindanao Regional Committee (NCMRC).
The first clash was on June 25 in Sandab Madaya village, Butig, Lanao del Sur.
The 1st Infantry Division (1ID) said no casualties were reported on both the military and NPA rebels. The rebels fled after the firefight.
The troops recovered from the clash site some 200 rounds of caliber 5.56 millimeter ammunition, eight magazines, a bandolier, clothing, water containers, cooking gear, and other personal items the NPA have abandoned.
The 1ID said pursuit operations are ongoing against the fleeing NPA rebels.
"Operations will not stop until all remaining terrorist elements in Lanao del Sur are destroyed," the 1ID said in a statement.
Like the clash on Monday, there were no reported casualties on both the military and NPA rebels during the June 25 clash in Sandab Madaya village, Butig. (SunStar Zamboanga)
