

A YOUNG Zamboangueña has captured gold and bronze medals in the recently concluded International Federation of Muaythai Association (Ifma) 2025 Senior World Championships.
Dr. Cecil Atilano, city sports director, said Rudzma Abubakar, who hails from Pasonanca village, joined the list of Zamboangueños who have achieved the prestigious title of world champions in Muaythai.
Atilano said the tournament was held from May 22 to May 31 in Antalya, Turkey, and participated by Muaythai’s finest warriors from around the world.
Muaythai is a martial art and full-contact combat sport that uses stand-up striking, sweeps and various clinching techniques.
Mayor John Dalipe lauded Abubakar for her feat, bringing pride and honor to Zamboanga City and the Philippines.
Meanwhile, the Summer Learn to Play A Sports Program 2025 culminated on Saturday, May 31 with over 4,000 aspiring young athletes successfully trained in different sports events supervised by the City Sports Division.
Atilano said the free month-long sports clinic is an annual event held from May 1 to 31 and intended for boys and girls from ages seven to 16 years old.
Atilano said the training covered 26 sports events held at various venues across the city, with approximately 300 trainers conducting the daily sessions. (SunStar Zamboanga)
