LAWMEN have arrested a newly identified high-value drug suspect and seized around P1.7 million worth of illegal drugs in an anti-drug operation in Zamboanga City, the police said Thursday, August 7, 2025.

Police Colonel Fidel Fortaleza Jr., Zamboanga City Police Office (ZCPO) director, identified the arrested suspect as alias Chan-Chan, 22, a resident of Calarian village.

Fortaleza said Chan-Chan was arrested by the City Drug Enforcement Unit (CDEU) operatives in a buy-bust around 12:28 a.m. Thursday, August 7, at a motel in Guiwan village, Zamboanga City.

The CDEU launched the anti-drug operation after weeks of surveillance on the illegal drug trade activity of Chan-Chan.

Seized from Chan-Chan were 250 grams of shabu worth P1.7 million, a bundle of 49 pieces of P1,000 bills boodle money topped with one genuine P1,000 bill as marked money, and a belt bag.

The suspect was detained at the Zamboanga City Police Station 5 in preparation for the filing of case against him for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

The confiscation of the P1.7 million worth of illegal drugs is the first significant accomplishment of the ZCPO in its anti-drug campaign this month of August. (SunStar Zamboanga)
