DENGUE cases in Zamboanga City have surged by 42 percent in the first four months of 2025, the City Health Office (CHO) said.

The CHO said a total of 638 dengue cases with two fatalities were recorded from January 1 to April 19, 2025, which is significantly higher compared to the 450 cases recorded in the same period last year.

Of the total cases recorded, 326 or 51 percent were children between one to 10 years old.

The CHO said that the villages of Labuan and Baliwasan, both located in the west coast, topped the list of affected barangays with 19 dengue cases each.

The CHO said the symptoms of dengue fever typically include a sudden high fever, headache, joint and muscle pain, rash, and nausea or vomiting.

In severe cases, dengue can lead to complications like internal bleeding, shock, and organ damage, potentially requiring hospitalization.

The CHO has urged the residents to adopt the ā€œ4Sā€ strategy against dengue.

These included Search and Destroy, Secure Self-Protection, Seek Early Consultation, and Support Fogging or Spraying. (SunStar Zamboanga)
