

NEWLY elected local government officials across the Zamboanga Peninsula gathered in Zamboanga City for a three-day Strategic Leadership for Good Governance training.
The training, which began Wednesday, August 6, is spearheaded by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG)-Zamboanga Peninsula.
It aims to help newly elected officials strengthen their leadership skills and align their priorities with effective local governance practices.
Mayor Khymer Olaso, along with Vice Mayor Ma. Isabelle Climaco and members of the City Council, represented the City Government of Zamboanga during the event.
In his speech, Olaso expressed gratitude to DILG-Zamboanga Peninsula Director Paisal Abutazil for selecting Zamboanga City as the host of the regional gathering. He described the event as an opportunity to reaffirm the city's commitment to accountable and responsive governance.
“I am navigating this exciting and challenging journey of public service with a renewed sense of purpose and responsibility,” Olaso said, emphasizing his dedication to learning and serving Zamboangueños to the best of his ability.
On Thursday, August 7, the participants focused on setting clear goals and objectives aimed at building sustainable and progressive communities.
On Friday, August 8, the final day of the training, sessions will provide practical tools on governance, effective legislation, and innovative public service. The event will culminate in planning exercises designed to translate leadership ideas into actionable strategies.
An exhibit and networking session was also launched during the opening program, showcasing initiatives from various local government units, national agencies, and other partners in promoting local governance and development. (SunStar Zamboanga)
