MAYOR Khymer Olaso seeks to intensify the promotion of Zamboanga City as a premier tourist hub in Southern Philippines to boost the local economy and create opportunities for business growth.

Olaso, with tourism as one of his top priorities, has committed to ensuring that government resources will be used efficiently and transparently to promote the city throughout the country.

“This will help boost the local economy by drawing more investors and creating opportunities for business growth,” Olaso said.

The mayor met on Friday, July 4, the personnel of the City Tourism Office where they discussed the current state and future director of the local tourism industry.

City Tourism Officer Sarita Hernandez presented a comprehensive briefing during the meeting on the status of local tourism development, outlining ongoing programs and upcoming activities, including preparations for the annual Hermosa Festival and other major events.

Among the sites eyed for further beautification efforts are Sta. Cruz Island, R.T. Lim Boulevard, 11 Islands, Paseo del Mar, Zamboanga International Airport (ZIA), and other key destinations, as part of the City Government's commitment to enhancing its appeal to both local and international visitors.

Both Olaso and Sebastian underscored the need to strengthen governance, marketing, promotions and regulations to ensure the city remains a competitive and attractive destination.

Olaso said investing in tourism can generate a domino effect that supports the growth of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and stimulates the broader business sector. (SunStar Zamboanga)
