
ZAMBOANGA City Mayor John Dalipe commended young weightlifters from Zamboanga City for their exceptional performance at the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) Youth and Junior World Championships in Lima, Peru.
The competition took place from April 30 to May 5, 2025.
During a courtesy visit to City Hall on Tuesday, May 20, Dalipe praised their discipline, dedication, and world-class excellence, calling them an inspiration to the city's youth.
The Zamboangueño medalists shared the pride and honor they brought to the country with Dalipe during the visit.
City sports director Dr. Cecil Atilano accompanied the athletes and coaches from three local weightlifting gyms: Mampang, Pasobolong, and Guiwan.
Atilano reported that Alexsandra Ann Diaz from Mampang Weightlifting Gym won two gold and one bronze medal, while her teammate Jhodie Peralta swept three gold medals. Coach Allen Jayfrus Diaz trained both athletes.
Jay-R Colonia from Pasobolong secured two golds and one silver, and Angeline Colonia earned one silver and one bronze. Their coach, Gregorio Colonia, also attended the courtesy visit.
Albert Ian Delos Santos from Guiwan Weightlifting Gym added two gold medals, bringing Zamboanga City’s total to nine gold, two silver, and two bronze medals. Diwa Delos Santos coaches Albert.
