THE Zamboanga City Electric Cooperative (Zamcelco) has assured there is sufficient and stable power supply for the conduct of the midterm polls on May 12.
Gannymede Tiu, Zamcelco general manager, said they have an emergency power supply agreement of 85-megawatt (MW) with Malita Power Plant, a firm contract of 29-MW and another 12-MW non-firm contract with the Power Sector Assets and Liabilities Management (Psalm) corporation.
“So far, very sufficient, considering we have our agreement, we have our contracts with the power suppliers,” Tiu said in an interview.
“The remaining power requirement will be sourced out from the spot market—the Wholesale Electricity Sport Market (Wesm), Tiu added, citing the power peak demand of the city has reached 126-MW in March.
He said they have already completed the preventive maintenance services on all 10 power substations, ensuring stable supply of electricity.
Tiu said that all power substations have their own standby maintenance and troubleshooters.
He said they have also conducted clearings of vegetated lines to prevent power trips.
He said they have completed the inspection of all designated polling centers and light bulbs will be provided to polling precincts without bulbs. (SunStar Zamboanga)
