MANILA -- President Benigno Aquino III on Tuesday issued Proclamation 460 declaring August 21 until the day of the interment of the late Local Government Secretary Jesse Robredo as National Days of Mourning.

As provided for by law, the national flag shall be lowered to half-mast from sunrise to sunset in all government buildings and installations in the Philippines and in country's posts abroad, for a period of six days.

National flag shall be lowered to half-mast in places such as Malacañan Palace, the City of Naga, and in all offices and installations of the Department of Interior and Local Government, Bureau of Fire Protection, Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, National Police Commission and Philippine National Police.

The proclamation also tasked the Committee on Funeral Arrangements and Burial created by virtue of Memorandum Circular 36 to issue bulletins through the Office of the Presidential Spokesperson, as arrangements are finalized in consultation with, and in accordance with the wishes of, the bereaved family of Robredo.

This includes announcing when the six-day period of the national flag flying at half-mast nationwide will commence.

Malacanang appealed that the family of Robredo be given time to grieve and not pressure them as to any details concerning the funeral.

The Palace said all details regarding Robredo's funeral will be announced at a proper time. (Jill Beltran/Sunnex)
