413 Calatrava farmers get P1.3M in insurance claims

THE Provincial Government of Negros Occidental has distributed crop insurance benefits totaling P1.3 million to 413 Calatrava farmers enrolled under its agri-fishery program on Thursday, February 3, 2022.

The Agri-Fishery Insurance Program is a joint initiative between the provincial government and the Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation (PCIC).

It aims to protect and insure agricultural crops of farmers in the province.

Farmers enrolled under the program are entitled to financial claims for crop damage brought about by natural calamities and pests infestation aggravated by climate change.

Aside from the insurance claims, the farmers also received high-value crops seeds.

Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson led the distribution, which was also attended by First District Board Members Araceli Somosa and Rommel Debulgado, Calatrava Mayor Marilyn Era and other local officials.

The Office of the Provincial Agriculturist led by its officer-in-charge Dina Genzola facilitated the distribution of the checks to the beneficiaries.
