THE Department of Labor and Employment Region VI (DOLE Region 6) recently awarded a P1-million check to members of the United Negros Transport Cooperative (UNTC) as part of the agency's "EnTsuperneur" program.

The check was presented by DOLE Negros Occidental Provincial Head Carmela Abellar and DOLE 6 Regional Information Officer John Mandario during the "HiNUN-ANON," a Kapihan activity initiated by the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) held in Bacolod City on March 22.

The event was graced by PIA Director-General Undersecretary Ramon Lee Cualoping III and Deputy Director-General Asst. Secretary Katherine Chloe De Castro, along with officials from LTFRB 6 and LTO 6.

Under the EnTsuperneur program, the UNTC will receive support for a rice retailing project. This program is part of the Stakeholder Support Mechanism Component of the Public Utility Vehicles Modernization Program (PUVMP), which aims to address concerns regarding the socio-economic impacts of the implementation program on public transport industry stakeholders.

According to Abellar, the EnTsuperneur program aims to provide a social safety net and employment opportunities to the affected stakeholders of the PUVMP by offering livelihood assistance packages that are selected based on their viability. The program aims to enable beneficiaries to have sustainable sources of income outside the public transportation industry. (PR)

THREAT. According to a Capitol consultant, the Cebu City Government is threatening to shut down the Cebu North Bus Terminal at the back of SM City Cebu (left) and the Cebu South Bus Terminal along N. Bacalso Ave. for operating without a business permit. The Province, which runs both terminals, maintains that it operates the facilities as a public service for passengers going to the province and vice versa. /
