Group underscores environment woes

THE Group of Environmental Socialists (Goes) lamented that common property resources such as land, air and water are currently threatened by profit and greed.

The group, in a manifesto, said the worsening environmental destruction and the continual rape of the Negros life support system is due to the unresolved issues of profit and greed seeking individuals or corporations.

"If we want to save humanity from self-destruction, the government should start environmental revolution," it said.

It also added that this manifesto advances to safeguard the land, air and water resources.

The group demanded that all concerned government agencies should be within the context of promoting the three component of sustainable development.

These are social well-being, environmental well-being, and economic well-being.

Goes said these three should be collectively considered in every development.

The manifesto stated that our environment support us by giving us water, air, food, shelter, and medicine. So our duty to love God and our neighbor also requires us to care for and restore the environment which help God's creation to survive.

The group also called on to stop capitalism, commercialism, and consumerism that ruin the environment.

"Eradicate poverty, hunger, inequality, and seeds of injustices not humanity," it added.
