Labor leader bucks EO vs ‘endo’

Sunnexdesk

LABOR leader Wennie Sancho said it is unfortunate that President Rodrigo Duterte will not issue an Executive Order (EO) to end labor contractualization.

Even if the bill will be certified by the President, it would still be disadvantageous, said Sancho, secretary-general of General Alliance of Workers Association.

Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III announced on Thursday, April 19, that Duterte will no longer sign an EO on contractualization.

Instead, the President will certify the pending bill on the security of tenure as a priority bill.

Sancho said a bill against contractualization will have a rough sailing in Congress and it will take time considering the powerful lobbying of the employers' group.

He said the delay will only prolong the agony of the contractual workers, he said. (CNC)
