THE Greening CHMSC Task Force organized a free organic gardening and vermicomposting seminar-workshop for one day attended by 35 faculty, staff, and JPA personnel of the school with guests from two barangays within Talisay City on April 15, 2021.

The seminar was conducted by Noel B. Fordente, Administrator of CPSU-Victorias Campus as part of CHMSC's collaboration with another state higher education institution.

The seminar-workshop kicked off with an ice breaker led by Jyan Rome A. Bascar, coordinator of Physical Science and Human Kinetics, followed by welcome remarks of vice-president for Research and Extension Dr. Andrew Eusebio S. Tan.

A brief introduction was given by Rhoderick K. Samonte, Chair of Greening CHMSC Task Force and Director of Center for External Affairs.

Noel B. Fordente shared his story on how he started organic gardening from being a swimming coach. His lecture-presentation focused on the basics of organic gardening and vermicomposting. It was followed by a field workshop at the backyard of CHMSC Talisay Campus. He demonstrated how carbonized rice haul was produced and the process of vermicomposting.

“Everything is provided, you just need to improvise, and CHMSC has plenty of resources to tap. You have a gold mine around,” he said.

The seminar-workshop ended with sharing of lessons learned and key takeaways of the participants. Closing remarks was given by Dr. Amelia A. Calfoforo, Director for Human Resource Development Office. (PR)
