PRICES of meat products sold among public markets in Negros Occidental have remained stable, the Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO) reported.

Last week's Prevailing Market Price Monitoring Report of PVO released Tuesday, June 18, showed that average price of carabeef (carabao meat) is P250.43 per kilogram.

The price is the same compared to the previous week's monitoring report of PVO.

A kilogram of beef is still P253.67 while price of pork remained at P223.12 per kilogram.

Also, average price of chevon (goat meat) is still P303.63 per kilogram.

For dressed chicken, prices of broiler and native remained at P162.64

and P243.44 per kilogram, respectively.

Prices of eggs are also the same: P5.53 per piece for small; P6.09 per piece for medium; P6.81 per piece for large; and P7.34 per piece for extra-large size.

Salted eggs, on the other hand, are still sold at P11.74 per piece.

Provincial Veterinarian Renante Decena said the prices of these products remain steady mainly because supply and movement of livestock and poultry animals after class opening have stabilized.

Decena pointed out that during the start of classes two weeks ago, supply and demand increased especially in university belt area including cities of Bacolod, Talisay and Bago.

"In the towns, on the other hand, demand decreased due to the priority of families on other needs of their students," he added.

As to whether this trend in prices will continue in the succeeding months, the provincial veterinarian said there is a need yet to monitor the fish catch or supply of fishery products.

People tend to prefer meat if prices of fish increase, he explained.
